Following the terms of the SOA almost anything could be a service. Recently Microsoft, Canon Inc., BEA Systems Inc., and Intel Corp are developed the WS-Discovery specification that focused in devices that are not typically reachable through Web services ex: PDAs.
WS-Discovery is defines basically a protocol to locate services. In my opinion WS-Discovery is complementary to UDDI and, maybe the most important thing, tends a bridge to the device world. WS-Discovery works together with ohter protocols like WS-Eventing, WS-Addressing, WS-Security, and WS-ReliableMessaging.
I just read that the WSE 2.0 team is making tests with WS-Discovery. Logically the next stage is to expect the Feedback Workshop.
